on-lain ✔ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈI wonder where to get actually good reading suggestions beyond just reading the classics (which might just be what one has to do). Booktube/Booktok is completely retarded, all women just read girlboss romances, all men read litrpg books, and they only read books that came out in last 5 years. Goodreads is kind of useful if you only read 2 or 1 star reviews, so you can at least filter out things. anthologies are mostly trash, so why read through 20 'hard sci-fi' stories of which only 2 are in any way hard sci fi? Maybe let AI read everything and then ask it for recs?
@lain local library/new/used bookstore and finding out which is interesting :aichanpeek: even if it’s just junk, finding junk from a different time or language is certainly worthwhile
this means letting go of the “media that suits my tastes exactly” mindset…
@lain have you read Wizard's Bane by Rick Cook? I think that's one of the best wizard books ever written. This is one of the original isekai stories on which the genre is based
@lain The great thing about stealing books from coffee shop book shelves is that some nerd has already curated them for you and if you liked what you stole last time you'll likely appreciate the next theft too. I'd recommend it.
@lain I really like Edward m Lerner. He writes hard Sci fi. Have you read analog science fiction and fact? Long running pulp magazine focused on hard sci fi.
