     @brett @codewiz Tell me what fuels rockets. I will give you a hint: there are two primary elements that remain separated until liftoff.
     
     Then tell me what those two elements combine into.

     @vic @brett Starship uses liquid methane and liquid oxygen: CH4 + O2 => H2O + CO2. That is water and carbon dioxide, as in most kitchens.

     Water can only go up to 100°C before vaporizing into a white cloud.

     Starship is as environmentally friendly as a rocket could be. If successful, full reusability will eliminate the worst environmental impact of lifting mass to orbit: burning entire rocket stages as they re-enter into atmosphere 😱

     @brett @codewiz And of course more modern rockets use slightly different variations whose reagents can be toxic (like hydrazines), but they burn more-or-less cleanly.
     
     If you're wanting to go on an environmental crusade, a better place to start would be lithium mines, the peak of hypocrisy among modern environmentalists.

     It is powered by oxygen and hydrogen.
     
     These combine to form H2O.

     @vic@seal.cafe @codewiz@mstdn.io The superficial observer might think only of the rocket fuel and, lacking any depth of knowledge, thinks that"s all there is to it. Unfortunately rockets sometimes explode, and this tends to release more than CO2 or methane 😉
     
     For your education, you might want to consider construction materials, eg of Raptor engines, ICs, wiring, shielding, and heat shields.
