Yes, I’m all for #CrossBorderRail, but it’s hard. I want to go to Amsterdam a week on Thursday (28th). I have a valid Interrail, though I’m out of departure legs for my trip to France from Barcelona, so I have to pay for that separately.
But before I go anywhere, I start looking at seat bookings. And lo, there are no seat bookings in any train Paris-Ams before the 2nd. And nothing Brussels-Ams before the 30th. Also, something weird was happening with the Barcelona-France trains on the 28th that made me distrust the whole setup, and look on the 29th
And even if I had trains to book, the seat reservations would be 70€ for the trip, plus another 65€ for the Barcelona-Perpignan trip out of my own pocket.
I booked a Transavia flight, which was a total of 131€, including luggage and seat and all the extras, and it gets me to Schiphol in 2h30m. Even adding 2:30 to the start and another 1:30 to the other end to get through the airport and to CS, still 6h quicker.
Why is this so difficult?
