   I have big disagreements about AI with a lot of my mutuals on here, but in almost no case do I actually find the difference of opinion annoying or offensive. If I am replying to you about AI stuff and you find it annoying, please feel free to tell me privately and I am happy to not do it.

     @s8n @leyonhjelm @mischievoustomato there is no AGI yet, and unsupervised learning is still super primitive. I have friends that swear that AGI is around the corner, I don't see it but there's a lot happening that I don't see so maybe they're right.

     @sun @leyonhjelm @mischievoustomato @s8n there are very exciting things from the past year or two but they aren't from GAFAM.
     
     they reverse engineered eligibility traces (tl;dr approximate the derivative of backprop-through-time down to a single protein marker), made a basic immitation of top-down learning signals (training the learning network to train the bigger one how to walk)
     
     assuming all the spike shit have from last month wasn't made up in the journals it really is just a matter of taking the parts and figuring out the right way to jigsaw them together (i say this as though it's not still an immense pain in the ass)

     identify a market that is unlimited. Convince investors that, since the market is unlimited, the return on investment will be effectively infinite and they should pump money into you endlessly to get infinite money out of you. This works 100% of the time because people who work in boring jobs like finance are universally retarded, since anyone more intelligent would be doing something more fun with their time. You then hire all your friends, promote them, and then all quit the company to use your new engineering level as proof that you deserve a job from a competing company. Then you all take the jobs with the competitor and leave the company holding the bag
