@Remittancegirl @randomgeek The vaccination started in US in 1955 (Salk vaccine). I was 6 y.o. when I took a dose of Sabin vaccine in Southern Brazil in 1963, but there was not a systematic vaccination program until ~ten years latter and only in 1994 polio was erradicated . I grew up wih several school coleagues with polio sequels.During the anti-vax far-right wing Bolsonaro's government (2019-2022)the vaccination dropped to levels so low that a return of polio was feared (the same for measles)

I grew up in Spain, where seeing people with the sequelae of polio and measles was staggeringly common.
