I sometimes read articles about how people are leaving Twitter for BlueSky. It makes me a bit sad because I'm really rooting for Mastodon and ActivityPub.
But then again, I'm reminded of the IM wars of the 00's: AOL vs ICQ vs MSN. Do you know what survived those three services? XMPP, called Jabber back then. Fucking IRC, a technology that turned 38 years this year.
You know why? Because open protocols are not controlled by a company deciding whether or not a product is profitable or not.
