   Let's get this out of the way right off: what we have right now is exactly who we are and who we've been since the first days of Europeans setting foot on the Americas. From day one we subjugated a population of people that lived here first.

   Stop and consider that, don't move past it. Don't pretend that it's ancient history that is not relevant. Don't pretend there is an expiration date for land theft and genocide..."

     @n3verm0re @dennyhenke I'm not disagreeing or attempting to argue the well made points. That said, raising our gaze above the horizon this is the story of humankind. Every organizing structure needs to control and reshape its history and narrative in order to maintain itself. Even when they fall, those who succeed them do the same.

     Largely, while we focus our blame on gov'ts and countries, those things are relatively new in the history of this type of behavior.

     @dennyhenke We were sold a version of America when we were kids, but we never worried about the cost, and most of us didn't bother to question whether it was real.

     It turns out that our pitched ideals were just a shoddy combover. This is who we are. A fake smile and a gun for every good boy or girl. "Welcome to America. I hope you survive the experience."
