ICIL (International Computer and Information Literacy Study) 2023 showed that over 40% of young teens only have rudimentary PC skills. this is an increase from a study 5 years ago, where only 33% were able to do simple tasks (like open a link in a mail).
the media reports this as a crisis, when there's an improvement in measured skills.

I'd give my daughter only half broken computer stuff and make her a tech goddess :SoraWow:

@kaia idk if that would work. Interest in computer repair must spark from something. Otherwise I doubt she'll ever get any interest in it.
Computer's are many layers of abstraction in the name of automation of information. One could imagine that such path to want more automation was to discover mechanical automation like cars or fridges, or washing machine etc... but you can't understand the value of these unless you started without them and did most of everything manually.
So I don't think she'd be interested in that if she has no motivation towards something better especially in a context were everyone her age will be have a nightmare rectangle an aren't struggling/having their dopamine fix so easily.

@hakui @kaia My point is that you don't envy to learn about more practical abstraction if you don't understand the benefits.

@mangeurdenuage @kaia yes you have to have a certain level of autism to prefer abstraction to tangible subjects. thank you friend.

@hakui @kaia That's the goal tho of applied abstraction, to have more time to enjoy the physical world.

@mangeurdenuage @kaia most people don't care about abstraction when the physical world is out there for them to enjoy

@mangeurdenuage @kaia most abstraction lovers end up spending all their time in abstraction though
