@europlus @Ange CR without an LF was used for things like bold and underlines (faster and more precise than single backspaces) on teletypes and printer. I guess LF without a CR makes much less sense as a printer trick. Apple IIs and classic Macs used CR, Unix used LF and both would need to add the missing character when printing something out on anything but a screen.
