Something people keep missing with regards to the economy is even those who saw wage gains have seen those gains erased by dramatically higher prices for housing, groceries, and other necessities. The cheapest products, which working poor people rely on, saw prices rise even more. People were shopping around trying to find a job that would let them afford to live. Fast food and cheap consumer goods are also a thing of the past so people can't even enjoy themselves the way they used to.
