Archaeo-Histories (archaeohistories@ohai.social)'s status on Tuesday, 12-Nov-2024 23:51:48 JST Archaeo-Histories The Windover Bog Bodies in Florida are pretty fascinating—these guys date back around 8,000 years.
They were discovered in 1982, and it's a really incredible site with the remains of 168 people buried in Windover Pond. Thanks to the peat down there, the bodies were preserved so well that scientists even found intact brain tissue in several skulls.
This amazing preservation has made it possible to do DNA testing, which is part of what makes Windover such a big deal in the world of archaeology.
