@mametsuko i think the rule is if the word starts with a vowel you use 'an' otherwise 'a'
'an egg'
'a potato' -

Puniko ? (puniko@mk.absturztau.be)'s status on Monday, 11-Nov-2024 18:55:17 JST Puniko ?
@mametsuko @ielenia@ck.catwithaclari.net :neocat_think_googly_woozy: maybe this helps: if you speaking of a specific thing or person or something, you use "the", if you are speaking of an unspecific thing or person or something, you use "a".
"the bread" is that specific bread and "a bread" is any bread -

@ielenia@ck.catwithaclari.net aaammm my question is more like when to use indefinite/definite articles. it's difficult for me as a Japanese speaker to understand this concept

@mametsuko@mk.absturztau.be "a" before consonant sounds, "an" before vowel sounds
as with most things in English it's really just based on vibes -

@mametsuko 'a' implies one of many, 'the' implies a singular.
'a potato' <- it is one 🥔
'the potato' <- it could be one 🥔 that is the subject of conversation, or it could be the sole 🥔 that existsInsane Eagle Sun likes this. -

@icedquinn@blob.cat oh yes but my question was how to use indefinite/definite articles... i don't know when to use a or the unless the situation is very simple
