   do you think the designers that made the new Mac Mini storage replaceable will be let go? I think this creates an unacceptable precedent. what's next? user extendable memory or something?

     @kaia im not in the loop but is the storage actually replaceable, or is it like the mac studio where the storage was on a "daughter board" drive stick, but replacing it with a new one would lead to the computer not booting

     They'll probably get a new job where they make even dumber decisions. It is the corporate way.

     You are giving those designers more credit than they probably deserve 😂
     From what I read it's modular, but not really user-replaceable, I think it's something like this: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2022/03/explaining-the-mac-studios-removable-ssds-and-why-you-cant-just-swap-them-out/
     In other words, it's possible to remove one without de-soldering, but still far from being customer-serviceable and you can't easily upgrade/replace it with store-bought parts.

     Yeah, probably doable — even ready to use third-party ones might be available from stores that sell Apple-compatible components such as OWC. But I'm not sure that would still qualify as user-serviceable as it further blurs the line of what that is — after all people for whom ordering chips which meet the specs online and soldering them in isn't a problem exist too 😅

     @m0xee @kaia Isn't that the one where you can jailbreak a diy board and turn store-bought into "apple-brand" components? Not optimal, but still solderless.
