It's always been the case that the investments in "AI" are about devaluing labor and shifting money from one portion of the economy straight into the pockets of tech. However, it's absolutely worth pointing out that we now have no chance of regulating this. I seriously doubt the ruling against Google for being a monopoly will stay, and even if it does, whatever tiny chance of having teeth it could have had is gone. Given that tech's fusion with the defense and finance industries is pretty much complete at this point, it's probably no surprise that they're kissing his ring, yeah? I mean. They wanted him in. Badly. They would have continued doing fine under Biden, but that isn't the point here.

So generative machine learning models that are used to replace creative people are going to continue doing that; whatever trickle of money flowed into the pockets of creatives in a professional capacity is... probably not going to continue. If you have the means, _do not use those services as a replacement for a person you'd hire_. If you have a company, employ a human, even if on contract: it'll be cheaper than paying Altman and the quality will be much higher. If you wish to buy art, buy it from an artist you know. Every dollar you do not give to them but instead give to a group of people heavily impacted by this 'technology' counts double: -1 dollar for tech, +1 dollar for people who almost certainly share your anti-fascist views.

I know it seems weird to give buying suggestions, but I would like to point out that capitalism's trick of replacing the meaning of the word "commerce" with itself has led to the idea that any transfer of money carries with it the values of capitalism. That is not true, has never been true, and certainly does not need to be true for you to shift money away from these fuckheads.
