   #writersCoffeeClub 11/7: Is there one genre or subgenre you'd never write?

   There are a whole bunch! I'm a child-free 60 year old pale-skinned non-straight male atheist left/green immigrant to Scotland, so you can probably figure out a laundry list of stuff I won't touch, either because I can't speak from experience and/or close observation, or it leaves me cold.

   (Never write a book about something that leaves you cold: you're condemning yourself to months or years of demotivated boredom.)

     @cstross I struggle with this. I'm told that my older, white, gay male protagonists are not what the readers want to see, but as I'm not a "feisty young woman coming from a challenging racial, economic, and social history" (plus dragons), I'm not sure how to take that advice.
