   I miss the era of compact point-and-shoot cameras.

     Point-and-shoot cameras died because phones replaced them, and now I either have to spend too much money on a decent somewhat compact camera (because it was made with "creators" in mind) or buy overpriced old digital cameras (because grumpy millennials like me and gen Z made their prices skyrocket, apparently).

     I have an old digicam — a Samsung WB150F —, but it wasn't in the greatest shape ever when it was given to me. Now I'm having so many issues with its autofocus, and the zoom lens mechanism fails to open or close from time to time.

     It can be a very competent camera when _it works_ — it's what I've been using to document the life of a cat colony in my city. But I've lost the opportunity to take so many amazing pictures due to the issues I've described.

     I think I had the same camera 10 years ago. I remember spending a lot of effort choosing it, but it had several problems I didn't anticipate, it was IIRC:
     - it lacked orientation sensor, thus I needed to rotate the photos 🤯
     - it was sloooow to focus, often didn't focus well and had no MF virtual slider
     - USB cable data transfer was slow

     So a couple of years later, I found out phone photos better in all aspects but telephoto (which my current phone does quite well).

     I decided to get a new camera as a graduation gift — we'll see what I'll find in the market in about a year.
