   Wow, I made it to 1.5k followers. Growing in here feels a bit like wading through treacle

   Based on a vague understanding of network theory I believe that distribution of follower counts on a social network should follow a power law whose exponent can only be determined empirically. I would guess that mastodon has a much lower exponent than every other social network; in this way you could quantify exactly how much it hurts to not have algorithmic content curation

     When I started out here I sort of challenged myself to grow a new following a second time, but this time on hard mode without having the Algorithm being kind to me. The answer is I'm sort of succeeding, but very very very slowly

     Funny enough I'm still growing much faster than on twitter despite writing 1 thing on there every few months (for sure some of those are bots, but I don't think most of them are)

     @julesh I recently discovered that it's possible to follow hashtags on mastodon. Maybe using more hashtags could be one way to have people (who might be interested) that don't follow you see your content? (Although I don't know how many people are out there following e.g. #haskell )
