   Salaried network engineer for an enormous wealth management firm sez unmanaged switches cannot carry VLAN-tagged traffic, it will either drop the packets or strip the tag

   Just for grins I put the dumbest most consumer-tastic switch I could find between the trunk ports of two enterprise switches

   Works fine.

   Don't get me wrong, dudebro was perfectly nice and knew his shit otherwise but like how do I not have a gig

     @r000t Unmanaged switches actually do have to parse the packet header, thus a switch implemented badly with no VLAN handling will drop the packets or strip the tag - although a switch that understands the VLAN header will work fine (really should be all of them by now, but there are exceptions).
