kaia (kaia@brotka.st)'s status on Monday, 04-Nov-2024 07:42:12 JST kaia there are only three companies in the world making traditional foldable top hats, so called opera hats or chapeau claque. Aleisa in south-west Germany is one, run by a 40-ish dude who is the last master of this trade.
it's the only company that still does shellac-soaked fabric for the outer rim. the whole hat takes 150 manual steps. customers included Winston Churchill, Dwight D. Eisenhower and King Charles. only 1500 hats are made each year.
a hat costs 400EUR and takes 2-4 weeks to make.- mangeurdenuage :gnu: :trisquel: :gondola_head: 🌿 :abeshinzo: :ignucius: likes this.

Mischa (mischa@literatur.social)'s status on Monday, 04-Nov-2024 21:15:30 JST Mischa @kaia thank you - I didnt know this :)
I just thought Druckfrei could be an interesting brand name especially when taking into consideration that both me and the friend are writers ;-)
(and while Druckfrei in a hat probably simply means "pressure free", it reminds of "Druckfreigabe" meaning "print release" or "print approval")
