People who wear glasses are disabled, BTW. We need disability aids to function as an active part of society. If you wear glasses, you are disabled; your disability is just one that happens to be highly (if not totally) accommodated. It is generally considered reasonable to insist that you need your glasses and cannot cope well without them, and glasses are readily available and prescriptions for them not heavily gated. Touching or taking them without your permission is considered rude and cruel.

I pointed out that their guide dog was an accommodation, but they were still blind. And that someone who used a wheelchair was accommodated but still needed it for mobility.
Glasses aren't any different, just (as you said) more accepted. The biggest difference is that no on ever touches someone's glasses, yet folks are constantly petting guide dogs or pushing wheelchairs.

AnthonyJK-Admin (anthonyjk@mastodon.redgarterclub.com)'s status on Saturday, 02-Nov-2024 23:14:17 JST AnthonyJK-Admin I used to wear eyeglasses as a means to correct my farsighted vision in one eye, although I can generally see well enough without them. Unfortunately, I cannot renew a prescription for updated glasses because my unrelated other disability has me unable to work, and my state's Medicaid does not cover prescription glasses. Hopefully Social Security and Medicare will be around by May 2026 when I can apply for that. But, agreed that vision deficiency should count as a disability.
