Those extremely high ratios of prisoners going to the front are legitimately scary, as they suggest EXTREME levels of intimidation & abuse to make many prisoners risk themselves in meat assaults, as opposed to waiting a few years for freedom.

It is basically a short step away from killing the elderly, clinically insane, etc. Many, many Russians lost valued family members who they were hoping to see free in a few years, after serving their time.
