Okay, systems are up and running for https://botsinbox.net. Bot accounts can be bought through my ko-fi https://ko-fi.com/archdog for $1/month/bot.

Feedback is very much welcome and wanted! Currently limiting the number of slots until I'm completely confident in how it'll scale.

@arch idk, so lets have a look at the botsin.space blogpost.

      > Server costs are "fairly cheap until recently"
i guess if one doesnt use masto, one can save even more money... maybe around 1/2 of the server costs of a well optimized masto instance, probably even more.

      > Database storage (191GB growing)
      DigitalOcean wants 50$ for 500GiB
      Hetzner wants ~30$ for 500GiB

      > File Storage and Bandwith (#1 cost of botsin.space, unspecified)
Lets say we use a combination with hetzner and a hoster with unlimited traffic as a cache:
      ~6$ for 1TB with 1TB traffic + a VPS somewhere ~5$

Idk but i guess that a "few thousend" bots on an instance used within a well choosen combination will cost around 50-100$ per month, and since it is a bot instance, one could easily decide that older posts can be purged so it would be way way less...

I wouldnt be terrified by the costs at all

@Jain It's less about making money and more about making sure it can be self sufficient. The idea is to cover the cost of whatever it takes to run it, then the rest goes to the GoToSocial project. And if you don't want to use it, that's totally fine! GTS is super easy to install and manage, and I would actually encourage it over this :3

@Flyingmana @arch this is basically the setup of blob.cat except the Filestorage is different. And no, that work is not worth few ten thousand $.
