   Has anyone stopped to considered that the chief function of contracting out development to SpaceX or Blue Origin, is to ensure that huge chunk of NASA’s budget is siphoned away from doing anything useful?

     @GhostOnTheHalfShell still cheaper than SLS which is estimated to be 5 billion per launch by 2030. Why is NASA spending that much money? Well so much of it is outsourced, especially to Boeing, so do the math ... they're parasites
     
     The new relationship with SpaceX and Blue Origin is a better deal for the taxpayer

     I consider manned missions waste. The amount of effort and resources necessary to keep people live in a deadly environment is absurd, especially when contrasted with projects like Voyager, Rover or Cassini.

     Boeing is a corpse, thanks for the kind of business that both Musk and Bezos embody: financialization.

     Starship is not even on track to fulfill any of its primary contract objectives. They’re off doing something completely different.

     One of our biggest barriers was that oxygen sensors have a short shelf life and you can't manufacture new ones in space, but we do now have solid state oxygen sensors so long distance space travel is not quite as lethal. Now you just have to deal with the radiation and zero G effects on your body lol

     Yup. I would point out that NASA’s smaller, lighter faster project success. The ISS itself is well documented is a gigantic boondoggle.

     Modernity is not competent to colonize space. We are decades if not centuries away from it.
