I don't think there's one writing convention I avoid more than another.

Generally, if something prohibits me from telling my story how I want it to be told, I'll overlook it.

Many writing conventions are helpful, but they shouldn't be used broad-stroke. Instead, use them when it makes sense for your story and style.
