@samjayganges @doctorsex @ColPeatGuano @graf I wouldn't say it was by accident. Bethesda was successful because they offered an open world game like nothing else at the time and there was definite intent in that design. But now everyone at Bethesda has forgotten how to make a Bethesda game.

@weaf @doctorsex @ColPeatGuano @graf Emil is only in a high-ranking position because he wrote the Dark Brotherhood questline for Oblivion, which wasn't that great in and of itself, it was just new for the Elder Scrolls. Everything else he has done at Bethesda has proven even that was a fluke.
Bethesda has only ever been good by accident. Morrowind is the game that it is because the artist Michael Kirkbride was given free-reign to get shit-faced drunk and create the bizarro world that is Vvardenfell. Once he was no longer employed by Bethesda, the Elder Scrolls went back to boring generic fantasy.
