"the dream of ocean exploration is fine, but being in an environment so hostile you rely on technologies you didn't build to even survive would in fact surely produce the opposite effect"

@ACL9000 she talks like a woman who doesn't understand masculinity except as an outsider, which she is.

@sickburnbro She talks like a dummo.

@ACL9000 I reframed it as ocean exploration as an example.

@nugger @sickburnbro But she wasn't thinking about that.

@sickburnbro OCEAN EXPLORATION IS NOT A GENERATIONAL PROCESS
THE DIVERS GET OUT ON LAND QUITE FREQUENTLY I HEAR

@ACL9000 @sickburnbro IF SHE WAS THINKING RELYING ON TECH FOR A PERIOD OF TIME WOULD MINDFUCK THE ASTRONAUTS THEN NO THAT'S BRAINDEAD
THE CONCERN WITH SPACE EXPLORATION IS THE TRAVEL TIMES TURNING THE PROCESS GENERATIONAL
WHICH MEANS REDUCTION TO THE MEAN AND SELECTIVE PRESSURE TO BEST SUCCEED IN THAT ENVIRONMENT, PLUS INFANT DEVELOPMENT IN THAT ENVIRONMENT
I DON'T WANNA SEE THE KIND OF HUMAN RACE THAT'S OPTIMIZED FOR THE FRAGILE HIVE LIFE

@nugger @ACL9000 I think.. what she is thinking about is how fragile your life is when in space - you have all this technology to keep you alive which ( in her mind ) you don't know how it works.
And to her she thinks the fact that your life is then so fragile is (maybe) de-masculinizing.

@sickburnbro The most debilitating aspect is restricted resources and an over-awareness of fragile links in recycling system dynamics.

@nugger @ACL9000 @sickburnbro By the point we get interstellar travel we will have unlocked gene editing and then the mean is whatever we want it to be.

@WhitestTemplar @nugger @ACL9000 you assume. It's possible that gene editing might be more fraught that we suspect, and interstellar is just a matter of a tickle on the right string.
