Like, how is an environmentally conscious person supposed to make these decisions? How am I supposed to balance participating in a thing for work against my knowledge that doing the thing has long term dangerous consequences? Is there a good scale of value to me vs carbon emissions that I can draw a line on and say, ok, this is fine? Is mitigation good enough?

@derek It's hard. I have a colleague who refuses to travel for work. Another who will only travel if they can stack several meetings over a few weeks. I'm still figuring out my own calculation. Good luck

@djh Thank you for that. I think that aligns with advice I heard on "A Matter of Degrees" https://www.degreespod.com/episodes/episode-01

Give Up Your Climate Guilt — A Matter of Degrees
        from Stephen Lacey
The biggest climate stories blame “all of us,” or cast solutions as “impossible.” These narratives leave people feeling hopeless and confused about what we actually can do. In our first episode: individual actions versus structural change. What’s the right way to think about the role they each have

@derek There's a high chance that if you're thinking about these topics you're already doing more than most. In that case I wouldn't sweat the details or get lost in details and take a case by case decision based on how you feel like.

In the end we must remember that we need systemic change at scale holding corporations accountable. If we're stressing over every lightbulb in our every homes we're micro-optimizing only to feel better individually.
