With Trump being so clear he wants to be a dictator, and now clearly stating that he wants to employ the military against "the enemy within", I think it's the moral obligation of the Dem party to not give up power if he only wins the electoral vote, and lose the popular vote.
Not abiding by the agreed upon terms of the kinda-sorta democracy they have over there would of course not be good. Not at all. But it has the chance of being a single event. A MAGA dictatorship would be forever.

@btuftin You're right, it's a terrible predicament. They would have to spend the next four years on totally rewriting the US democracy: remove the electoral college, or change it completely, implement ranked choice or some other kind of voting, and do anything they can to split up the two party system. Which of course would be hard for them, seeing as they are one of the two. Not likely to be possible, but still must be done, as I see it.

@forteller So when do they hold a new election, and do you think MAGA would lose that one? I don't think a Democrat counter-coup is realistic, but it would absolutely guarantee an overwhelming red wave in the next election.

@btuftin In a system where people have an actual choice between many different parties a dictator would get over 50% of the votes? No, I really don't think so. Even under todays system MAGA party feard that RFKjr would steal votes from them. And even if that were to happen, it would still avoid the dictatorship for a few years. Better later than now.

@forteller And if they did all that somehow, the next election would be won by a dictator promising to undo it all. So a counter coup is only a moral obligation if one completely ignore the consequences of one.
