When you read primary sources from the time, you can see just how true this statement is. And I agree with you completely.
Despite its flaws, it was better than the alternative.
People who expect perfect and decide to allow evil to prevail if their idea of perfection isn't met are passively evil themselves. They seem to forget that burning it all down and starting over doesn't mean the survivors will get it right on the second try. It just means a lot of pain and death.
