    A pair of switches wired together to control a single light (or set of lights) from two locations, commonly found at the top and bottom of stairs.

    American English: 3-way switch
    British English: 2-way switch

    Setups with three control points are called 4-way and 3-way in the US and UK respectively.

      Anyway, I now have a way to control lights from two switches except instead of a wired XNOR switch, it's two WiFi devices sending messages to each other through an MQTT server.

      This seemed easier.

      @ryanc

      2-way sounds logical because one normally goes in two ways on stairs.

      But, I think the reference to 3-way is about the wiring.

      @ryanc A fabric which stretches in one direction is said to have “two-way stretch”. A “two-way mirror” is only a mirror from one direction. Almost every instance of a term with “way” in it is mind-numbingly wrong.
