@thisnorthernboy Completely ridiculous – I searched the picture for possible signs of the actual comet seen against the daylight, but nope – seems to be just that contrail. Worth flagging to the Guardian.

Rob Turpin (thisnorthernboy@mstdn.social)'s status on Saturday, 12-Oct-2024 20:38:14 JST Rob Turpin This is labelled as a photograph of comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS on The Guardian, and elsewhere on the web. But that's just a plane vapour trail right?
Credited to Martial Trezzini, who isn't an astrophotographer.
