I think there's something quite touching about the excitement for seeing and sharing pictures of the aurora. We know the science behind it, and we have the technology to recreate the effect in films etc, but we still run outside and stand watching in awe when it happens, and then we run back inside and share our pictures with people all over the world.
The shared experience is a wider one than it used to be, but it is still a shared experience, wherever we are, and that is very cool.
