   If anybody is wondering how I dealt with the fediverse spam wave earlier - I just temporarily limited all the servers sending the spam, ended up with no user reports.

   I'll unlimit when it stops. User impact wise you can still follow people on impacted instances and they can still follow you, it just limits unsolicited messages for now.

     You can import it from Settings -> Moderation -> Federation, then manually unblock once the spam stops ("Undo domain block" on each).

     Note it doesn't defederate, just limits, so no follow relationships are broken.

     And yes, it's many of the same servers as last time this happened with the other Japanese kids having an online turf war.

     No spam signups again this time my end.

     "Require new users to solve a CAPTCHA to confirm their account" is enabled in Server settings, and yes, that is related.
