A person in the group "East Germany is discernably visible in this map" went to a conference on neutron-based non-destructive material testing where the speaker noticed that the map of participating institutes had locations only in former West Germany, except one that was in Berlin.

The group quickly looked up said institute, and it was in West Berlin (but founded before the 20th century, so you could argue that's neither here nor there).
