    @mainframed767 MariaDB. I got one.

    I'm expecting WordPress soon.

    And four dozen that ended poorly.

      @elfin @mainframed767 mariaDB has been sold to venture capitalists so I don't think that really worked out so well for anyone except Monty

      @elfin @mainframed767 FreeBSD was maybe but not really rage fork of 4.4BSD

      OpenBSD was rage fork of NetBSD

      DragonflyBSD was rage fork of FreeBSD

      These are all thriving or at least not decaying

      LibreSSL had temporary success and then flopped

      LibreOffice might count

      Kodi/Emby?

      Gitea/Forgejo ??

      @vhns @feld @mainframed767 We still need a complete rewrite. Some tools are too entrenched.

      I use PostFix which is compatible with sendmail through shim-calls, or it wouldn't survive five minutes.

      TLS would benefit from refactoring OpenSSL.

      I mean, first change the fucking name. It's TLS, come on.

      @feld @mainframed767

      BSD=>BSDi (ask me when I'm drunk)=>FreeBSD=>OpenBSD BSD is A Whole Different Thing. It is fearsome.

      StarOffice=>OpenOffice=>LibreOffice (as I use Libre, assume bias) is a really great example. ALSO yanked from (fucking) Oracle and *made better*.

      I use BackdropCMS which is a fork of Drupal7 (and I'm porting modules now that I can). I like Backdrop way better than D7, and it forked because of a scandal that was handled poorly and D8 was shit. MMV

        LibreOffice
        LibreOffice () is a free and open-source office productivity software suite, a project of The Document Foundation (TDF). It was forked in 2010 from OpenOffice.org, an open-sourced version of the earlier StarOffice. It consists of programs for word processing; creating and editing spreadsheets, slideshows, diagrams, and drawings; working with databases; and composing mathematical formulae. It is available in 120 languages. TDF does not provide support for LibreOffice, but enterprise-focused editions are available from companies in the ecosystem. LibreOffice uses the OpenDocument standard as its native file format, but supports formats of most other major office suites, including Microsoft Office, through a variety of import and export filters. It is available for a variety of computing platforms, with official support for Microsoft Windows, macOS and Linux and community builds for many other platforms. Ecosystem partner Collabora uses LibreOffice upstream code and provides apps for Android, iOS, iPadOS and ChromeOS. LibreOffice is the default office suite of the most popular Linux distributions.
