there is a japanese student in uni chinese module I am taking. teacher seems to really enjoy writing some word on the board, asking her to say it in japanese and then being like "well in chinese it's pronunced like $word, but actually $character looks different in simplified form, and actually we don't use this word in modern chinese, we use $word2 instead"
