so uh there's no radio net or anything? why did everyone buy those baofengs?
also what's the civil air patrol doing during all this, are they active? actively being misused by the government perhaps?

@deprecated_ii The baofengs are just to chat about inane things - when it comes to something actually important, it turns out you're out of battery.
I don't see any large antennas on those police cars and handheld radios really don't have great range, especially when you're in a valley.

@professionalbigot69 @deprecated_ii This is why young people need to get involved in ham radio clubs and interact with one another more than the old guys who are just there to gain some sense of superiority because they couldn't get that feeling anywhere else in life.
Take the clubs over and turn them into actually useful networks of people rather than the "look at my $10000 radio and antenna, I am so much better than everyone here" club.

@vic @deprecated_ii ham radios get gatekept by ultra-annoying boomers who would tattletale and dox you for the smallest infraction

@deprecated_ii Everyone talks big about ham radio, but when disaster hits, nobody actually uses it.
They stare at the rectangular screenbox in their hand instead, hoping that if they stare long enough it will start working again.
