   The word “nativist” always rankles me: the people to whom it refers to are never, of course, actually Native.

   Should we abandon the word? Use it mindful of how it mirrors the broken thinking it refers to?

   Regardless, let’s not lose the forest for the trees: Trump is dredging up every bucket of scum he can pull from the sediments of the Nazis, Jim Crow, the Know-Nothings, whatever primal fear he can lay hands on.

     @inthehands Yes, I react to the word "populist" in the same way. Both are prevaricating words that gussy up what's essentially a form of fascism.
