@lamp GNUboot doesn't have that problem.
Once RAMinit is done, it boots into GRUB instantly.

@7666 It's only because the proprietary BIOS developers don't care to actually make it boot fast.
Coreboot boots very fast and then the kernel, Linux can init raid controllers etc very fast, without executing the proprietary Option EEPROM too.

@lamp because PC for human doesn't have raid controllers, PXE boot ROMs, out of band management cards, QPI/UPI links, or IPMI interfaces to fiddle with before enumerating boot options
