You know what would make weather events like Helene less devastating? Put electrical and internet service lines under ground.

Cost a lot of money? You bet! Take a long time...San Diego's been working on it since before I came here 25 years ago, and they expect be done by 2065, maybe. It's financed by a tax on utility bills.

"Well, if cable/internet goes out, I've still got my phone."

Not if the power to cell towers or data centers goes out too.
