I often lol when people complain that they have to read subtitles when watching foreign movies. Dude, be a Malaysian. Our movies in the cinema have three rows of subtitles in 3 diff languages. Imagine understanding all 3 and reading them all at once while trying to focus what's going on onscreen.
I think our brains have become mutants because of this.

@LastElemental it depends on the movie language but say it's in English, sometimes there are Chinese， Malay and Tamil subs at once.

@liztai And add to that when it’s a movie made in another language you also understand and you’re constantly frustrated the subtitles are bad translations 😂

@ajlewis2 Yea I spent most of my growing up years squinting at subtitles! Watching a show without one felt weird at first

@noam to be fair it's usually two languages now, and they often do this for movies that are not in English :)

@ml urhh Malaysians are not know for their movies for sure. I have to crack my head to think about a good one. Admittedly, I don't watch many Malaysian movies either 😂

@KCDOZ because not everyone understands all 3 languages. Some are bilingual, some are trilingual etc.

...wait - if films being shown in Malaysia all have three subtitle languages, and everyone can understand all three, why not just have one?
Are films just not made and distributed specifically for the Malaysian market?

@rodolforg if the movie is in a language other than Malay, there will be Malay subs. Often, English movies have Chinese and Malay subs. Occasionally there will be Tamil subs.

@ml (butting in here, but…) we saw a 2018 Malaysian movie this year, thought it was OK. Fly By Night (English name), saw it on SBS On Demand in Australia. Messy, just how I like them!
