In 2006 Fishtown’s Johnny Brenda’s opened its upstairs music venue with The War on Drugs, Jack Rose & Meg Baird. It was an odd, mostly uneven affair where you could hardly hear JR or MB but I do remember The War on Drugs and sort of remember them sounding like above from what I can recall. I’ve never been a massive fan even though I love Kurt Vile. I’m going to listen to their first couple of recordings over the next few days just the same.
