   Every year in the EU, 700,000 people lose their lives due to tobacco consumption.

   To better protect people, we have put forward new recommendations for smoke-free environments, including:

   🔹 extending smoke-free environment policies to outdoor areas, including public playgrounds, healthcare and education premises;

   🔹 covering new products such as electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco goods.

   We will also make €96 million in EU funding available to support research.

     @EUCommission Smoke-free zones only work if the checks and penalties done right - many public spaces in Germany with "No-Smoking Zones" are filled with cig stubs outside the small marked "Smoking Zone" because smokers don't give a flying flamingo and e.g. at train stations the staff/security/police neither.
