PSA - if you're ever using chat gpt to help you with software, as soon as it starts talking about permissions - stop immediately. It's pretty good as a guide, but when it starts talking about permissions its retarded and doesn't know what it's talking about.

@Tony Personally I don't think you're ready for arch. Pick something that works by default, not that breaks.

well what distro should I use?
I was thinking about ARCH because i keep running into issues with irrelevant packages and random programs, but idk how compatible it is with most things

on the bright side, i did noticed a cdrom error within the package manager on the old install that wouldn't allow me to download certain versions of python, so maybe this go around I can fix that lol.

if anything, this whole experience has taught me why separating things when working on them is important. Would have been an easy fix if it was a localized mistake, but because it was on my main machine it just cascaded and fucked everything lol

the whole point in setting up a VPS was actually to localize things so I can try messing with things and if I break them I can just spin up a clean slate. But alas, here we are. No vps and now I have to wipe and reinstall 🙄

yah, usually this is what I do, but i was feeling in a hurry.
I went to the virt-install docs (whatever the package is called) and solved my own problems, but that's when I figured out the permissions got fucked.
Like I said (and I should have known this because this literally happened to me in the past) i should have just ignored the chat gpt console commands lol.

i got into the root user and fixed some of it, but now I can't run apps or even open fire fox because the program for initiating firefox has fucked user permissions.
So annoyed I can't even.

@Tony You should just find some tutorials on some nerd's blog that roughly do what you want, and go from there.
I would not trust specific things like console commands from chatgpt.

i changed some permissions for virt-install or whatever with the VPS's shit i was messing with and then all of a sudden it couldn't download the OS from the website and could only do it locally.
Turns out one of the commands Chat GPT reccomended created a new user and kicked my normal user out of the sudo group and now everything is fucked sideways.
