   Probably a naive take on my part.

   It seems one way of curtailing some of this habitual “making shit up” from politicians, would be for media mavens to simply ask on air, in an interview, etc… once a proven lie is repeated, “why should we ever trust anything you say in the future?”

     At the very least it would force them to provide some response to the question, and it's framed from the point of view of trust - something Republicans are awful at.

     What I mean by that is, their strategy has been "look at what those Democrats are doing" and then lying about what it is the Democrats are doing. It has never _been_ about trusting their Responding leadership, it has always been about _not_ trusting the other guy.

     So that question actually drives down directly to a core value point that completely eludes the Republicans, one they know they lose every time, and therefore that's why they are always doing the other thing.
