Just replaced my old Apple TV 4K with the newer model that is also a Thread border router. I now have two: the HomePod Mini (WiFi) and the Apple TV (Ethernet).
And OMG, Thread is so much faster & more reliable!

@rachel I get where you're coming from, as I isolate my wifi IoT stuff on a VLAN, and Thread doesn't play nicely with that unless you put the border router on a VLAN too (which, given the nature of border routers, is unlikely to work out well).
But I profoundly fucking hate 802.11 as a home automation standard. It's profoundly unsuited to it and I am backing away from it anywhere I can, and unlike Zigbee, Thread actually seems to work properly in an environment with multiple manufacturers' gear.
@goatsarah I can’t decide what I think about Thread. Somehow, it makes me wary that I know less about my home network than I did before. Make sense?
@goatsarah Are you going to get rid of the old 4K? I may be interested, depending on the model.
@goatsarah Huumm… still with the old style remote?
@goatsarah I'll probably skip it. I want to pass the 2K to my parents and get a 4K for myself, but I would need to swap the remotes otherwise my father is going to throw that thing out the window, and I don't blame him.
