Rapid tests/LFTs are very reliable at showing true positives (99%) but not great at showing true negatives – historically the average reliability has been 69%*, but with more recent variants, it's reportedly even lower, around 27%**.
So while you can believe a positive result, you shouldn't rely on a single negative test. Instead, you should repeat the test over several days.
