   Periodic reminder that France owes Haiti something like 20 billion francs for the unpaid labor which not only enriched France but the entire fledgling economy of the West.

   There is no West without Haiti.

     More facts about Haiti (and no shade but this was really easy to look up and I won't be answering any more follow-up questions from this thread)

     Prior to the revolution Saint-Domingue was the most lucrative colony on the planet, outperforming the entire Spanish empire in the Americas in terms of profit. 1 in 8 French people made their living through the trade system that flourished on the backs of enslaved Haitians.

     The *first democratically elected president* Jean-Bertrand Aristide, who calculated and announced the total sum owed in 2003, was deposed the next year in a coup that was enabled by you know who (the US and France).
