   @cJ It's present in SUSv2 (only available as PDF) hence why I said historical standard, although was already marked as obsolescent by then.

   Well never used that one, although I guess for the special case of backups I could but for me those go in scripts, including for restoring. And checking manpages while writing scripts is typically the way I go so mnemonics aren't needed.

     @cJ And I guess given -num isn't in coreutils manpages including for old ones (just checked https://manned.org/man/debian-etch/head.1 and https://manned.org/man/debian-etch/tail.1 ) I probably picked that from illumos, so bad habit I've carried for at least more than 10 years. Oh no.

     Haha, anyway we can see from your screenshot the trend towards uniformisation of CLI arguments, back in 1994, even though the historical form was definitely more compact and could be favored by some.

     A while back I was pretty surprised when I discovered my bashisms.
