@amiloradovsky Copyright and patents are not meant to be about "competition".
Copyright was meant to encourage authors to write and publish more books in exchange for a temporary monopoly on who could publish those books.
Patents were meant to encourage inventors to publish their inventions in exchange for a temporary monopoly on who could profit from the invention (originally if it turned out that someone else had independently invented the same invention, the patent was annulled, but now the first to patent gets the monopoly, even if what was patented was a discovery and someone else made the discovery first).
Of course, companies have subverted such laws, in the belief that they will end up with more profit, even though what they have done works against the very reason for those laws to exist.

what if #copyright and #patents are indeed more helpful for smaller companies competing against the larger ones than vice versa
of course it's a lawyers bullshit in either case, but there's so much of it anyway, with or without copyright and patents present
